NAVPU is the daily price of one unit of a fund. It's how your investment's value is measured, and it updates every day. Here's what it means and how to read it.
NAVPU stands for Net Asset Value Per Unit. It is the price of a single unit of a fund, worked out by taking the fund's total value, subtracting its fees, and dividing by the total number of units. In short, it's how much one unit of the fund is worth on a given day.
How does NAVPU affect my investment?
When you invest, your money buys units at the current NAVPU. The value of your investment at any time is simply your number of units multiplied by the current NAVPU. If the NAVPU rises above the price you bought at, your investment has grown; if it falls below, it has dipped.
Why does NAVPU change every day?
A fund holds investments like bonds and stocks, whose market prices move daily. As those underlying values change, the fund's total value changes, and so the NAVPU is recalculated and updated each business day. This is why an investment fund's value moves day to day, unlike a fixed savings rate.
How do I use NAVPU?
You can see the current NAVPU on each fund's page in the DragonFi app. It's useful for tracking your investment, but for long-term funds it's best not to focus too much on daily movements. What matters more is how the fund performs over your full investment horizon.
Good to know
A common misconception is that a fund with a low NAVPU is "cheap" and one with a high NAVPU is "expensive". That's not how it works. The NAVPU is just a starting point; what matters is the percentage it grows from the day you invest. The trust fee is already reflected in the NAVPU, so there's nothing extra to subtract yourself.
